Credits

Buy minutes,
not renders.

A credit is one minute of the footage you upload. A 40-minute podcast costs 40 credits — once. Asking for changes costs nothing, and it costs the same whether you ask once or twenty times.

One charge per finished video Nothing charged for a job you stop Top-up minutes never expire

Rate ladder: from $0.083 a minute on the smallest pack to $0.020 on Studio Business. Top-ups work on every tier, including Free.

The unit, before the price A credit is one minute of source footage. Not a render, not a generation, not a coin with a rate that changes when you are not looking. You are charged the length of the file you handed us, rounded up to the next whole minute, so the cost is knowable before you upload and does not move afterwards.
The guarantee A job is charged once, and the charge is keyed to the job id. The charge runs when a video reaches done. A retry, a restart, a re-render or a continuation of a stopped job keeps the same job id, so the same minutes are never taken twice. Revisions and shorts never call the charge at all.
What a credit is

One minute of the footage you upload, rounded up, charged once.

Studio adds up the running time of everything in the job, rounds up to the next whole minute, and charges that once — when the video finishes. Not when you upload, not when the render starts, and not again for anything you ask for afterwards.

  • Rounded up. A 41-minute-20-second interview is 42 credits.
  • Charged on done. Until the video exists, nothing has been taken.
  • One charge per job. The ledger row holds the job id.

The charge is written to a ledger you can read: date, what happened, the video it belongs to, and the change to your balance.

What is never charged

Five things that cost nothing, permanently.

This is the part of the model that matters most, because iterating is what editing is. None of these three has ever produced a charge on any account — and neither has a job that fails or one you retry.

Revisions Write what you want changed in your own words. Every message makes a new version and the earlier ones stay. No limit, no charge, on any tier. no limit, no charge, on any tier — the charge runs on done, once
Shorts from a video you already paid for Ten shorts from one podcast cost the same as zero shorts. Each is its own job, so you can watch it, change it and download it separately — still at no charge. shorts are free, always — the charge runs on done, once
A job you stop Stopping keeps everything done so far, deletes nothing, and charges nothing. Continue from where it stopped whenever you like. “no minutes are charged” — stop, and nothing is charged
A job that fails The charge only runs on a finished video. A job that fails part-way costs nothing, and you get the full error report rather than a dead screen. the charge only runs on a finished video — am I charged for a job that fails?
A retry Continuing a stopped job, re-running a step or rendering again keeps the same job id. The charge is idempotent per job id, so it cannot happen twice. one charge per job id — am I charged twice if I retry?
A file that was never sent
A video longer than the minutes your account has left is not uploaded at all, so there is nothing to charge and nothing to undo.

The guarantee, in one sentence: a job is charged once and the charge is recorded against the job id, so a retry, a restart or a second render can never take the same minutes again. If your ledger ever shows one job charged twice, that is a bug, and we fix the balance rather than the wording. Read the ledger — every row holds the reason, the job id and who granted it.

The lifecycle

Six moments, and only one of them charges anything.

This is the order the code runs in, not an illustration of it. Each step names the function or the check that makes it true.

Sign up A new account starts with 30 free minutes — “the first video is free”. A one-time grant, not a countdown, and it does not expire. +30 free minutes for a new account — the Free tier
Upload Your balance is checked before anything is sent. A video longer than the minutes you have left is refused with the exact shortfall — nothing charged, nothing half-uploaded. checked before anything is sent — what happens when you run out
Edit Queued, then running. Transcribing, cutting, planning and rendering all happen here, and your balance does not move once. nothing is charged yet — the charge runs on done
Stop Stop at any point and nothing is charged. Every finished step is kept, and continuing later resumes the same job at the same place. “no minutes are charged” — what is never charged
Done The video exists, so the source minutes are taken — once, rounded up, written to the ledger against this job. one charge, written against the job — the charge runs on done
Revisions and shorts Ask for changes, ask for ten shorts, ask again next week. The job is already charged, so none of it touches your balance. free, always — what is never charged
Top-up packs

If you will not subscribe, buy minutes instead.

Minutes are the unit, so a top-up is just minutes. They apply immediately, they work on every tier including Free, and they never expire.

60 minutes for $5 — selected, applies immediately, never expires, works on Free.

Buy minutes
On Creator, $20 buys 600 minutes instead of 300
Creator is $10 a month for 300 minutes, so the same $20 buys two months and 600 minutes. The 300-minute pack is the honest comparison point: a subscription is 2.0× cheaper per minute, Pro 2.7× cheaper and Studio Business 3.4× cheaper.
The rate ladder

From $0.083 a minute to $0.020 a minute.

A subscriber always pays less per minute than a top-up buyer, and each step up the tiers drops the rate again. We publish the whole ladder rather than the flattering half of it, because the upgrade only makes sense if you can see exactly what it saves: the same $20 that buys 300 minutes as a pack buys 1,200 minutes on Pro and 2,000 minutes on Studio Business.

Rate = the price divided by the minutes included. Free has no rate because there is no monthly price.

Rate per minute for each top-up pack and each subscription tier
What you are buyingPriceRate per minute
60-minute pack$5$0.083
300-minute pack$20$0.067
1,000-minute pack$50$0.050
Creator — 300 min a month$10 / month$0.033
Pro — 2,000 min a month$50 / month$0.025
Studio Business — 5,000 min a month$100 / month$0.020

The monthly allowance is spent before top-up minutes, so the minutes that expire are used first and the minutes that never expire stay in your balance.

When you run out

The moment you need more minutes, this is the whole screen.

No dead end, no surprise charge, no upgrade wall. Three exits, one of which is simply to upload less.

This video needs more minutes than you have left.

The upload stops and shows the shortfall. You add minutes, change plan, or send a shorter recording. Nothing is charged until a video finishes.

Or upload the first 18 minutes only. Nothing is charged until a video finishes, so trying the shorter cut costs you nothing but the upload.

There is never an automatic overage charge: the upload is refused with the exact shortfall and you choose what happens next, which is why the third option exists. This panel is the replacement for the string “your free minutes are used up - ask the Studio's owner for more credits” you would otherwise see at upload.

Questions

The six questions people ask about credits.

What exactly counts as a minute?

The running time of the files you upload, added together and rounded up to the next whole minute. A 42-minute interview plus a 40-second intro file is 43 credits. Trimming happens inside the job and does not change the charge, because you uploaded the footage either way.

Am I charged for a job that fails, or one I stop?

No. The charge runs when a video reaches done, and only then. A job that fails, a job you stop and a job you abandon part-way all cost nothing, and everything already finished is kept so you can continue later.

Do top-up minutes expire?

Never. A pack bought in March is still in your balance in December, on any tier including Free. Your monthly allowance is spent first, so the minutes that expire are used before the minutes that do not.

What do revisions and shorts cost?

Nothing, on every tier, without a limit. A video you have already paid for can be re-cut as many times as you like, and shorts made from it are free — ten shorts from one podcast cost the same as zero shorts.

What happens if I go over in the middle of a project?

You get the panel above: the exact shortfall, a 60-minute top-up for $5, the upgrade to the next tier, or the option to upload only the part that fits. Nothing is charged automatically, and no card is charged without you choosing a pack.

Can I buy minutes without subscribing?

Yes, and it works on the Free tier. It is the better deal if you edit in bursts — a shoot, a launch, a conference — and the worse deal if you edit every week, because a subscription is between 2 and 3.4 times cheaper per minute. The calculator will tell you which one you are.

Your first 30 minutes are free.

One real episode, edited end to end, with as many revisions as you want. No card, no countdown, no watermark. If you would rather buy minutes than subscribe, the packs are on this page and they never expire.
